The Cost of Child Care for Single Parents

The cost of child care can be unaffordable for many low-income families, especially single parents. Child Care Aware of America, a project of the Office of Child Care in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, surveyed Child Care Resource and Referral (CCR&R) State Network offices and local CCR&Rs to determine the average cost of child care for families across the United States, depending on the type of care and the age of the child. The following graph highlights the average cost of full-time center-based child care for infants in 2015 compared to the median income of single parents in each state, using data from the 2014 American Community Survey.
