The University of Denver’s Online Advanced-Standing MSW Program: MSW@Denver is designed for students who have earned a BSW at any point in time and wish to build on their knowledge and experiences by continuing their social work education.
If you are an Online Advanced-Standing MSW student, you will bypass the foundational coursework already completed during your BSW and begin the program with the and two foundation courses:
Power, Privilege and Oppression
Evidence for Practice
Concentration Curriculum
Develop your future practice to meet the needs of your community by choosing one of two concentrations: Mental Health and Trauma or Health, Equity and Wellness.
Mental Health and Trauma prepares you to provide trauma-informed care to help people heal as a behavioral health clinician or a psychiatric social worker.
Health, Equity and Wellness prepares you to practice in a variety of holistic and integrated health settings, including hospitals, after-school programs and experiential treatment centers.
Complete one internship (12.5 hours a week) related to your chosen concentration during your concentration year. Under the guidance of a licensed social worker at a site in or near your own community, you will apply what you learn in the classroom and focus on the professional skills you need for advanced social work practice in mental health and trauma or health, equity and wellness.
To be eligible for admission in the Online Advanced-Standing MSW, you must:
hold a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) from a regionally accredited college or university at any point in time
have an undergraduate GPA of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale (a 3.0 GPA is preferred; however, if your GPA is lower than 3.0, the admission committee is likely to look at your last 60 or 90 undergraduate credits)
Designed to meet the needs of today’s online learner, MSW@Denver offers a challenging, inspiring curriculum created and led by our expert University of Denver Graduate School of Social Work faculty.
