Advising and academic planning resources are linked at the GSSW Student Resource Portal.

  • Foundation courses: Foundation courses must be taken first. Please register for foundation requirements in the order listed on your academic plan. A prerequisite course list can be found at the GSSW Student Resource Portal.
  •  Concentration courses: Please review the Course Planning Tool for course requirements, including concentration requirements for degree completion. Required electives must be concentration-level, meaning foundation courses do not qualify as electives. • Financial aid: It is recommended that students consult with the DU Office of Financial Aid (finaid@du.edu/303-871-4020) on impacts to scholarship awards and federal loans if there are changes to credit hours per quarter or if they have a change of academic plan or graduation timeline. Students receiving VA tuition benefits or housing stipends are also encouraged to consult with their VA representative. Please note that to receive federal loans, students must be enrolled in at least 4 credits per quarter, per DU Office of Financial Aid policy. Additionally, credits outside of program requirements may not be covered by federal loans.

Field Internship: Students cannot take more than 9 credits (3 courses) after completing concentration field internship. Additional field policies can be found in the Field Manual, located in the GSSW Student Resource Portal. Students must work with their Placement Specialist within the appropriate timeline to start field internship in the quarter their internship is planned. If internship must be delayed, please connect with your Student Success Advisor for next steps.

Graduation: Students must apply to graduate by the listed deadline. Failure to do so could result in a delay of graduation. Depending on the quarter in which degree requirements are completed, degree conferral dates are typically as follows: Fall quarter = November, Winter quarter = March, Spring quarter = June, and Summer quarter = August. DU has two optional commencement ceremonies. For Fall, Winter and Spring graduates, the Spring ceremony is held in June. For Summer graduates, the Summer ceremony is held in August. Information on graduation, graduation application deadlines, and commencement can be found at the GSSW Student Resource Portal.
